Rules and Guideline of the Art & Photography Contest

Eligibility
- The contest is open to all Maldivian professional and amateur, regardless of age, gender.
- Entrants under the age of 18 years require the permission of a parent or guardian. By entering the contest, entrants under 18 years of age indicate that they have obtained the permission of a parent or guardian.
- The contest is not open to core members of CMCA.
- Entry is limited to original works that have not formerly been displayed or exhibited as any visual medium (including advertising, stock photos, and on social networking service accounts, etc.) and for which the entrant holds all applicable rights.
- Works that have won prizes in other contests or that have been submitted to other contests currently underway, including similar works, are not eligible. Even works that are entered in other competitions after submission to this contest will be regarded as having been submitted to other contests currently underway.
- Works that are identical or similar to another work are not eligible for submission.
- A work produced from identical image will be considered identical or similar to another work.
- Entries and the persons depicted therein are restricted to works for which the entrant holds the copyright or for which the entrant has received the prior usage permission of the right holder.
- Entries including content from (1) to (4) below may be disqualified at the organizer’s discretion:
- Content that infringes on any laws, or is defamatory or libelous.
- Content that constitutes or encourages criminal behavior, leads to civil liability, or that otherwise violates any laws.
- Commercial content that promotes any products or services.
- Content which infringes on the copyrights, trademarks, contract rights, or any other intellectual property rights of any third person or entity (whether individuals or companies), or violates any person’s rights of privacy or publicity, including:
- trademarks owned by third parties.
- materials protected by third-party copyrights
- names, likenesses, or other characteristics identifying celebrities or other public figures
- entries containing screen credits
Theme:
China Maldives Friendship.
Photography
Guidelines:
- Each contestant must submit only one (1) photo entry.
- Submitted photos should be printed to A3 (297 x 420 mm) size in gloss format.
- Printed photos should be submitted to CMCA office before the deadline.
- Contestant must also attach a digital copy of the photo.
- Photo must be in JPEG format with a maximum file size of 10 MB.
- Entrants must hold all applicable rights to the final image, including any retouching or other image processing.
- All participants are required to submit the online application form before 30th August 2022.
- Photos must be submitted before 15th September 2022.
Note: Winners might be asked to provide higher resolution images for publication or display purposes related to the contest.
Judging Criteria:
- The relativeness of the Theme – 40 points
- Artistic Value and Communication Potential of the Image – 30 points
- Technical Excellence and Quality – 30 points
Painting
Guideline:
- Artworks can be made in any medium the artist wishes.
- The artwork can be presented in sizes 2×2 ft minimum and 5x5ft maximum.
- Entrants must hold all applicable rights to the final artwork.
- All participants are required to submit the online application form before 30th August 2022.
- Paintings must be submitted before 15th September 2022.
Judging Criteria:
- The relativeness of the Theme – 30 points.
- Composition – 20 points.
- Cleanliness – 10 points.
- Presentation – 20 points.
- Creativity – 20 points.
Prizes: (Per category)
- First prize:
- Cash Award of MVR 5000.
- Second prize:
- Cash Award of MVR 3000.
- Third prize:
- Cash Award of MVR 2000.
The winners of the two competitions would be given opportunities to exhibits their art in China, opening new venues for networking with artists and art communities from different provinces of China, and other countries. CMCA would avail opportunities to travel to China, visit art galleries and institutions for knowledge sharing, and would assist in participation of art contests in China. Also, for the participants in these two competitions it would open opportunities to advance their careers in art and photography.
Exhibit Details and Awarding Ceremony
- The judging of the submitted artworks and selection of prize winner will be carried out by a preselected panel of judges from 15th – 20th September 2022.
- The artworks submitted to the competition will be displayed at the national Art gallery from 06th – 09th October 2022.
- The winning artwork exhibits will be announced on our (CMCA) official social media platforms.
- Prize winners will receive their cash prize and plaque of achievement in the Gala dinner.
