Invitation to 2023 “Colorful World, World Cultural Heritage” International Youth Painting Invitational Exhibition

Invitation

The Beijing People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (BPAFFC) organized the International Youth Painting Invitational Exhibition themed “Colourful Imagination of Ice and Snow, Best Wishes for the Winter Olympics” and “Protect biodiversity and build a shared future for all life on Earth” in 2021 and 2022. Over the past two years, the exhibition has received 73,000 paintings from more than 70 countries, and more than 2,500 friendship organizations, overseas Chinese groups, schools and art institutions have participated in the organization of the event. 200,000 young people and families have participated in the series of activities, and the exhibition has been held in 10 countries, including the United States, Spain, the United Kingdom, Australia, Greece, Fiji and Mauritius, receiving satisfactory responses at home and abroad.

Application Rules

Themed “Colorful World, World cultural heritage”, the 2023 International Youth Painting Invitational Exhibition aims to advocate young people to interpret world cultural diversity in the language of art, encourage families and communities to work together to protect world cultural heritage, and promote cultural exchange and mutual appreciation among civilizations. The rules are as follows:

Activities

A solicitation of paintings to showcase cultural diversity and reflect the exchange and appreciation of world civilizations. A special exhibition zone of “The Colourful Beijing Central Axis” is set up to help to preserve the heritage of Beijing's central axis and promote the culture of the central axis.

A solicitation of short videos entitled “Protecting World Cultural Heritages in Action” will be launched in parallel, calling on young people to participate in the video shooting, and drawing the attention of their families and the public to the protection of world cultural heritages. The outstanding short video works will be showcased.

An online and offline exhibition of paintings will be held. The award-winning representatives, leaders of relevant organisations, diplomats in China, experts in aesthetic education and Chinese and foreign media will be invited to the award ceremony. Encourage countries, Chinese cities, various art institutions and schools to organize selection and exhibition activities for paintings.

Contributors

Worldwide participants aged from 4 to 18.Three age groups are divided

  • Participants aged 4-6
  • Participants aged 7-12
  • Participants aged 13-18

Timeline

  • Submission of paintings: May to July 15, 2023.
  • Submission of videos: May to July 31, 2023.
  • Selection: Mid August 2023
  • Award ceremony and inaugural exhibition: Late October 2023

    1. To depict the world cultural heritage, natural heritage and dual cultural and natural heritage of each country, showcasing cultural diversity and reflecting the exchange and appreciation of civilizations.

    1. A3 or quarto (within 389mm × 546mm)
    2. Canvas painting No.F8 (Within 455mm×380mm)

Submission

  1. Fill in the painting information form as required, and attach the information form to the back of the painting (See Appendix 1). The art works, together with the completed Group Registration Form for the Exhibition (See Appendix 2), should be submitted by group contributors. In this event we encourage group submission, and individual painters are also welcomed. In case of any questions, please feel free to consult your contact or the Organizing Committee.
  2. Submit the digital copy before delivering the original works; the digital copy should be emailed to the organizing committee: [email protected], with a copy to your organizer's email address; Original works should be delivered to the following address: Bimo China, No. 61, Suzhou Hutong, Dongcheng District, Beijing, China(Postal Code:100005). (International participants' works may be submitted digitally only if the original works cannot be posted, and such works shall be duly marked in the Group Registration Form). Entries will not be returned. The copyright and the right for exhibiting are granted to Organizing Committee automatically.
  3. The digital copy is expected to be sent in JPG or PNG format with the resolution of 300 dpi and the size of 1-5MB, and named including the No., names of contributor, and names of works, etc with the same information as in the group registration form.
  4. We encourage children to participate in the video solicitation activity themed "Protect world cultural heritage". Young people from different countries and regions can use video clips they made to introduce their own paintings, introduce representative world cultural heritages from various countries, issue a call to the public and advocate respect for the diversity of civilizations, and the importance of inheritance, protection and innovation of civilizations with words and through actions. The excellent videos will be streamed on supporting media outlets as well as the organizers' websites, WeChat official accounts and WeChat channels. Each video shall be about 1 minutes in length, in landscape format. Please email the videos to [email protected].

Copyrights

  1. The Organizing Committee owns the copyright of all the art works contributed and exhibited, and the contributors enjoy the right of authorship over their works. The Organizing Committee has the right to retain the works and own the full copyright and the right to use (including but not limited to exhibition, publicity, publication and other non-commercial purposes). This event is a non-beneficial event, it’s free for all the participants.
  2. All the art works so contributed and exhibited shall be original works by the contributors, and have not been published in any other exhibitions or contests. Any plagiarism detected will result in immediate disqualification from participation and exhibition.
  3. Participants shall also promise their works shall not infringe on the rights or interests of a third party (including copyright, right of portrait, right of fame, right of privacy and other legal rights and interests), and shall not contain any controversial contents involving territorial dispute, racial discrimination, etc.

Selection Method

  1. Selection Principles
    1. Evaluation principles: fairness, impartiality and objectivity.
    2. Scoring criteria: Scores will be given based on the form, category, region, imagination, observation, theme expression, aesthetic expression, and creativity, etc.
  2. Selection Process
    1. A Preliminary Jury, an Expert Jury and a Final Jury will be set up by the Organizing Committee to evaluate the works.

Awards

  1. Awards for Participants
    1. Awards are given to young people in both Chinese and foreign countries respectively. There will be several First, Second and Third Prizes respectively for every group (participants aged 4-6, participants aged 7-12 and participants aged 13-18). All the other participants will be awarded a Prize for Excellence and certificate issued by the Organizing Committee. The final number of awards may be adjusted according to the quantity and quality of entries collected.
  2. Awards for Organizations
    1. Special awards for outstanding organizations will be awarded to cities, friendship organizations, overseas Chinese organizations, schools, and art institutions that have made active efforts for encouraging and organizing participation in the event.

  • WeChat Official account/video Channels, Facebook and Twitter: International Youth Painting Invitational Exhibition, Bimo China and WAAE will report on events and showcase public service videos.
  • The #ProtectingWorldCulturalHeritageinAction hashtag is launched on Weibo and TikTok, driving all sectors of society to participate in the promotion of World Cultural Heritage protection.
